54  | 陳選，字士賢，臨海人。明禮經》。天順庚辰，試禮部學士，邱濬讀其文，喜曰：「此必古君子也！」力置第一，後為御史，所至有聲。累遷廣東左布政，雅澹無異韋布。每飯蔬羮，除重徭，罷和買，備賑濟，為惠養計，事涉風教，必捐俸為之，務以徳化民，其聽訟不事，刑威𨽻人，拱立左右而已，訟者使自拘，被訟者使自歸，民樂其不擾，皆不忍欺，數辨寃，獄閩漁人賴克哥等三十餘舟，遭風泊潮，邏者得之，以通畨論死，選讞出之，邑人劉馬住及黄福等十九人被誣，選一訊得實，人服其神，執法不避中貴。時提督市舶司韋眷倚進貢為奸利，以苦役戸選，特為裁減，其後畨人馬力麻與海商通販，詭稱蘇門答剌國眷受賄不問，選發其偽，又撒馬兒罕使臣怕六灣，以獅子入貢，洎浮海還國，復以更市獅子啗我，選言不貴逺物，豈以隳國體而勞外畨，眷益銜之，乃誣奏選勘灾不實，擅便發倉，命刑部員外李行㑹巡按御史勘問無實，行承眷頤指賂選所黜吏張褧，誣證其狀，褧不從，遂拷掠，褧務文致之，逮選赴京，廣人擁留數千，至有泣下者。選在道，病作，行至南昌卒，後以張褧疏奏得白，贈光祿寺卿，諡恭愍，而眷竟罷鎮守。選性約素，其學以古人為宗，臨利害不能奪其治行，至今為嶺南所稱。 |
