52  | 丙戍，以翰林學士、兼龍圗閣學士、權知開封府陳堯咨，為宿州觀察使、知天雄軍，樞宻直學士陳堯佐權知開封府，堯咨自負其能，冀速登用，頗不快於執政者，嘗有謗言達於上，太后惑焉，他日，以問王曽等，曽既具對，且曰：「臣等職在弼諧，敢不心存公正，然䜛人罔極，亦不可不察也」。太后猶未信，曽曰：「是非曲直，在於聽斷之審」。請以藥物諭之，醫方謂藥有相使相反惡者，而甘草為國老，以其性能和衆藥，故湯劑中不以寒溫多用之，而斑猫有毒，若與衆藥同用，必致殺人，此其驗也」。太后大悟，不數日，堯咨有換官出鎮之命，堯咨內不平，上章固辭，時太后嘗以雙日垂簾，特用隻日召見，敦諭之不得已，乃拜受，堯咨善射，嘗取錢為的，一發貫其中，於兄弟間最為少文任氣節，真宗嘗欲授以武職，堯咨母不可，乃止。或謂太后此除，實用真宗遺意也，尋有詔，堯咨遇契丹使過大名，權位丞郎上，及歲増公私錢百萬，天雄城壁器械，自契丹修好乆不治，堯咨至，並加完葺，然須索煩擾，多暴怒，列軍士持大梃侍前，吏民語不中意，立至困仆。壬辰，甘州可汗王寳國、伊嚕格勒遣使來貢方物。九月己亥，廢淄州東埠鐡冶。 度支貟外郎、兼侍御史知雜事王鬷言：「方用兵夫塞决河，而近郡比罹水旱之災，物力凋弊，不可重擾，請罷中外土木之不急者」。從之。賜秦州小洺門採造務卒緡錢。 |
