"Lu Hengzhou Ji" is a ten-volume collection of works by Lü Wen, a prominent figure from the Tang dynasty. Lü Wen, whose courtesy names were Heshu and Huaguang, was a native of Hezhong. He passed the jinshi examination in the fourteenth year of the Zhenyuan era and held various official positions, including Criminal Department Minister and Imperial Censor. Later, he was demoted to the position of Prefect of Daozhou and then transferred to Hengzhou, where he eventually died. His biography is detailed in the Tang Dynasty's official history.

The collection "Lu Hengzhou Ji" was originally compiled by Liu Yuxi, who organized the works from "Renhua Chenglun" (On the Formation of Human Culture) to "Zhuge Wuhou Miao Ji" (Record of the Temple of Zhuge Wuhou) as the first part. However, the current version of the collection has been reorganized, placing poetry and赋 (fu) at the beginning and miscellaneous writings at the end, which differs from Liu Yuxi's original arrangement. Additionally, the sixth and seventh volumes are missing several pieces.

At the end of the collection, there is a note by Chanshou Jushi, who identified himself as Feng Shu from Changshu. Chanshou Jushi explained that in the year Jiazi, he borrowed the first five volumes from the Qian family, and in the year Wuchen, he purchased the last three volumes from the local area. Both sets were Song dynasty editions, but the sixth and seventh volumes were missing. He used the Yinghua and Wen Cui to fill in the missing pieces and awaited a complete edition for further verification. He also noted that the second volume includes fifteen pieces, such as "Wen Zhen," which were not found in the Song dynasty edition but were copied from the Chen Jieyuan edition.

Lü Wen was associated with the Eight Secretaries, a political faction. When Wang Shuwen was defeated, Lü Wen escaped punishment by being on a mission to Tubo. Despite his questionable character, he received his education in the Spring and Autumn Annals from Lu Chun and in literature from Liang Su, thus his teachings and learning were well-founded.

Notable pieces in the collection include "Yuzu Xiong Gao Shu" (Letter to Clan Brother Gao), which delves deeply into the principles of the Six Classics; "Song Xue Tianxin Gui Linjin Xu" (Preface to Sending Xue Tianxin Back to Linjin), which provides profound insights into the origins of literature; "Pei Shi Hainun Ji Xu" (Preface to the Collection of the Pei Family of Hainun), which offers a precise and profound discussion on poetry; and "Gu Dongzhou Cheng Ming" (Inscription on the Ancient City of Dongzhou), which elucidates the duties of rulers and subjects, correcting the errors in the Zuo Zhuan. In "Si Zi Tai Ming Xu" (Inscription and Preface to the Si Zi Tai), Lü Wen argues that encountering a single object can offer moral lessons to the world, a principle that writers should not neglect.

However, some pieces, such as "Dai Yin Pushe Du Nü Wei Ni Biao" (Memorial on Behalf of Yin Pushe to Ordain His Daughter as a Nun), could be omitted. The "Zhuge Hou Miao Ji" (Record of the Temple of Zhong Wu Hou) is criticized for its lack of insight and its tendency towards exaggerated and misguided arguments. Each piece should be evaluated on its own merits.
