意大里亚，居大西洋中，自古不通中国。万历时，其国人利玛窦至京师，为《万国全图》，言天下有五大洲。第一曰亚细亚洲，中凡百馀国，而中国居其一。第二曰欧罗巴洲，中凡七十馀国，而意大里亚居其一。第三曰利未亚洲，亦百馀国。第四曰亚墨利加洲，地更大，以境土相连，分为南北二洲。最后得墨瓦腊泥加洲为第五。而域中大地尽矣。其说荒渺莫考，然其国人充斥中土，则其地固有之，不可诬也。

大都欧罗巴诸国，悉奉天主耶稣教，而耶稣生于如德亚，其国在亚细亚洲之中，西行教于欧罗巴。其始生在汉哀帝元寿二年庚申，阅一千五百八十一年至万历九年，利玛窦始泛海九万里，抵广州之香山澳，其教遂沾染中土。至二十九年入京师，中官马堂以其方物进献，自称大西洋人。

时著声中土者，更有龙华民、毕方济、艾如畧、邓玉函诸人。华民、方济、如畧及熊三拔，皆意大里亚国人，玉函，热而玛尼国人，庞迪我，依西把尼亚国人，阳玛诺，波而都瓦尔国人，皆欧罗巴洲之国也。其所言风俗、物产多夸，且有《职方外纪》诸书在，不具述。
