時與悅同里而先為南京兵部尚書者張鎣，字廷器，正統十三年進士。景泰初，擢御史。歷江西副使按察使、陜西左布政使。成化三年以右副都御史巡撫寧夏。寧夏城，土築，鎣始甃以磚。道河流，溉靈州屯田七百餘頃。以父喪去。服除，起撫河間諸府，改大同，歷刑部左、右侍郎。十八年擢本部尚書。明年加太子少保。又明年，再以憂歸。弘治元年起南京兵部尚書，卒官，贈太子太保，謚莊懿。
