庚子嘉熙四年正月辛未，彗星出於營室。己卯，御筆：『乃正月辛未，有星出於室宿。朕俯察人事，仰觀天文，殆必有因，益深震懼。朕將避殿減膳，令學士院降詔。』庚辰，詔曰：『朕以眇身，托於天下士民公卿之上。顧德不類，不能上全三光之明，下遂群生之和。變異頻仍，咎徵彰灼，夙夜祗懼，不遑康寧。乃正月辛未，有流星見於營室。太史氏占，厥名曰彗，災孰大焉。天道不遠，譴告匪虛。萬姓有過，在餘一人。今朕痛自克責，豈聲利未遠而讒諛乘間歟?舉錯未公而賢否雜進歟?賞罰失當而真偽無別歟?抑牧守非良而獄犴多興歟?封人弛備而暴客肆志歟?道殣相望而流離無歸歟?四方多警而朕不悟、群黎有苦而朕不知歟?謫見上帝，象甚著明。愛避正殿，減常膳，以示側身修行之意。二三大臣，吾道揆也，其葉恭以輔朕；百爾執事，吾法守也，其竭忠以告朕，使朕得以導和銷異，不亦善乎?布告中外，咸知朕意。』丙戌，詔知無為軍萬文勝、知安豐軍王福賜金帶，許服系，旌戰禦之勞也。甲午，彗星犯王良西南第二星。
