八月庚辰朔，判紹興府孟忠厚特放罪。忠厚以郊赦加恩，令所親吳棫為表，其間有『本無時才，出為世用』之語，乃有是命。秦檜尋物色，知棫所代，由是廢斥以終。甲申，右正言何若為國子監發解所監試，祕書少監游操等三人充考試官，詳定一司敕令所刪定官駱庭芝等六人為點校試卷官，尚書刑部員外郎吳慄考別試，駕部員外郎葉廷珪等二人為點檢試卷官。監學降敕差試官自此始。辛卯，上謂大臣曰：『言者多乞選縣令，蓋令非其人，則為民害。可令吏部長貳審察注擬。或老病，則更授他職，庶得人而民受其惠。』後二日，都省請申嚴近制：因民事被罪及老病之人，不得注守倅、縣令。從之。庚子，上謂秦檜曰：『朕於《晉書》，取《王羲之傳》，凡誦五十餘過。其《與商皓書》及《會稽王箋》所謂「自長江以外，羈縻而己」，其論用兵，誠有理也。』癸卯，殿中侍御史汪勃言：『陛下兼愛南北之民，力定和議，與天下更始。崇儒重道，同符祖宗。臣愚以為今年科場當國學初建，萬方多士將拭目以觀取舍，為之趨向。欲望戒敕攸司，苟專師孔、孟而議論粹然、一出於正者，在所必取。其或採摭專門曲說、流入迂怪者，在所必去。』甲辰進呈，上曰：『勃論甚善。曲學臆說，誠害經旨，當抑之，使不得作，則人之心術自正矣。可如所奏。』
