戊辰紹興十八年春正月戊辰，諸王宮大小學教授林大鼐為太常寺主簿，仍兼祕書省校勘書籍。大鼐初為舉子，嘗答策言秦檜靖康忠義之節。檜時閒居永嘉，見其文，默識之，至是稍獲薦用。丁丑，太常博士駱庭芝罷。先是，參知政事段拂聞趙鼎死於海南，為之歎息。秦檜怒，殿中侍御史餘堯弼將按拂罪，先奏庭芝密與執政私交，漏泄機事，遂罷之。自是拂不安於位矣。左承議郎張闡添差通判泉州。自秦檜專國，朝士為所忌者，終身以添倅或帥幕處之，未嘗有為郡者。辛巳，命權工部侍郎李椿年同看詳諸路監司郡守條具裕民文字。壬午，殿中侍御史餘堯弼入對，論參知政事段拂滅棄人倫。戊子，輔臣進呈。上語及人材，因謂秦檜曰：『士專謀身，國家何賴?勵世磨鈍，惟在進賢退不肖。』檜曰：『此乃致治之要。』上曰：『但審其賢否而進退之，則人自知勸沮矣。』
