五月丁巳，降授太子少保、潞國公致仕文彥博卒。朝議大夫致仕韓維以朋附司馬光最為盡力，責授崇信軍節度副使致仕、筠州居祝六月癸未朔，日有食之，陰翳不見。丙戌，三盛樞密院同班致詞賀。上顧三省曰：『卿等更當修政事，以進賢退不肖為意。』曾布曰：『君子、小人有天下公議在，誠不難分別。』敦曰：『若盡要為君子，誰為小人者?』布曰：『臣不敢以小人自處，若無君子之心，何可居此地?』秋七月，詔許呂大防歸葬。始大防卒於虔州，上聞之，曰：『大防何以至虔州?』及其家請歸葬，即許之。議者由是知痛貶元佑黨人皆非本意也。甲子，內中遺火。已巳，詔罷作北郊，俟先罷合祭於圜丘乃行。庚午，太史奏：火人輿鬼，主賊在君側，宜備之。上遣中人召太史詰之，對曰：『讒慝之人皆賊也。唯親近正人，修德乃所以備之。』
