常州派，一曰陽湖派，有莊存與，所著曰《周官記》、《周官說》、《周官說補》、《春秋正辭》四種。述祖為存與從子，所著曰《尚書校逸》、《尚書說》、《毛詩考證》、《周頌口義》、《夏小正考釋》、《五經小學述》、《說文古籀疏證》。劉逢祿為述祖弟子，所著曰《尚書今古文集解》、《公羊何氏釋例》、《公羊何氏解詁箋》、《論語述何》、《發墨守評》、《箴膏肓評》、《廢疾申何》。龔自珍為逢祿弟子，所著曰《婺源三傳書》。魏源亦逢祿弟子，所著曰《書古微》、《詩古微》。孫星衍所著曰《周堂集解》、《尚書今古文馬鄭注》、《尚書今古文注疏》、《明堂考》、《魏三體石經考》、《孔子集語》。張惠言所著曰《茗柯全書》、《儀禮圖》。成孫為惠言子，所著曰《說文諧聲譜》。常州之學，本分二派，一為今文學派，莊氏一家開之，傳至龔、魏，橫流極矣。然其學通天人之故，接西京之傳，蓋得董、賈之精微，而非如龔、魏之流於狂易。江藩《漢學師承記》不列其名與書，殆有彼哉之意乎？一為古文學派，孫星衍卓然名師，為古學之勁旅，當時與洪亮吉齊名鄉里。亮吉所著《左傳詁》，遠不如孫之精深。蓋洪後以史學地理名家，精神別有專用也。惠言精研《易》《禮》，實惠氏之旁支。崑山元和以外，其學派未有過於常州者也。
