8  | 陳櫟，字壽翁，徽之休寜人。櫟生三歲，祖母呉氏口授《孝經》、《論語》，輒成誦。五歲入小學，即涉獵經史，七歲通進士業，十五，鄉人皆師之。宋亡，科舉廢，櫟慨然發憤，致力於聖人之學，涵濡玩索，貫穿古今。嘗以謂有功於聖門者，莫若朱晦。庵晦庵沒未久，而諸家之說往往亂其本真，乃著《四書發明》、《書傳纂疏》、《禮記集義》等書，無慮數十萬言。凡諸儒之說有畔於朱氏者，刊而去之，其微辭隱義則引而伸之，而其所未備者，復為說以補其闕，於是朱子之說大明於世。延祐初，詔以科舉取士，櫟不欲就試，有司強之，試鄉闈中選，遂不復赴禮部敎授於家，不出門戶者數十年。性孝友，尤剛正，日用之間，動中禮法，與人交不以勢合，不以利遷，善誘學者，諄諄不倦。臨川、呉澄嘗稱櫟有功於朱氏為多，凡江東人來受業於澄者，盡遣而歸櫟。櫟所居堂曰定宇，學者因以定宇先生稱之。元統二年，卒，年八十三。掲徯斯志其墓，乃與呉澄並稱曰澄居通都大邑，又數登用于朝，天下學者四面而歸之，故其道逺而章，尊而明。櫟居萬山間，與木石俱，而足跡未嘗出鄉里，故其學必待其書之行，天下乃能知之。及其行也，亦莫之御，是可謂豪傑之士矣。世以為知言。元史入儒學傳》。 |
