6  | 三年二月辛丑，帝不豫。宣政使王继恩忌太子英明，阴与参知政事李昌龄、知制诰胡旦等谋立楚王元佐。三月癸巳，帝崩，年五十九。时，皇后令王继恩召吕端，端知有变，即绐继恩入书阁，锁闭之。亟入宫，后问曰「宫车已晏驾，立嗣以长，顺也。今将如何」端曰「先帝立太子正为今日，岂容更有异议」后默然，乃奉太子至福宁殿即位，垂帘引见群臣。端平立殿下，不拜，请卷帘，升殿审视，然后降阶率群臣拜焉。初，帝欲以端为相，或曰「端为人胡涂」帝曰「端小事胡涂，大事不胡涂」决意用之。时同列奏对多异议，惟端罕所建明。一日，内札戒谕「自今中书必经吕端参酌，乃得闻奏」五月甲戌，讨谋立楚王之罪，贬李昌龄为忠武行军司马。降王继恩为右监门卫将军，均州安置。胡旦除名，长流浔州。 |
