1  | 宋蔡卞撰。卞字元度，興化仙游人。熙寧三年與兄京同舉進士第，官至觀文殿學士。事跡具《宋史》本傳。自王安石《新義》及《字說》行，而宋之士風一變。其為名物訓詁之學者，僅卞與陸佃二家。佃，安石客。卞，安石壻也。故佃作《埤雅》，卞作此書，大旨皆以《字說》為宗。陳振孫稱卞書議論穿鑿，徵引瑣碎，無裨於《經》義，詆之甚力。蓋佃雖學術本安石，而力沮新法，齗齗異議，君子猶或取之。卞則傾邪奸憸，犯天下之公惡，因其人以及其書，群相排斥，亦自取也。然其書雖王氏之學，而徵引發明，亦有出於孔穎達《正義》、陸璣《草木蟲魚疏》外者。寸有所長，不以人廢言也。且以邢昺之僉邪，而《爾雅疏》列在學官。則卞書亦安得竟棄乎？書凡十一類，曰《釋天》、《釋百穀》、《釋草》、《釋木》、《釋鳥》、《釋獸》、《釋蟲》、《釋魚》、《釋馬》、《雜釋》、《雜解》。陳氏《書錄解題》稱分十類，蓋傳寫誤脫「一」字也。 |
