51  | 任孝恭，字孝恭，临淮临淮人也。曾祖农夫，宋南豫州刺史。孝恭幼孤，事母以孝闻。精力勤学，家贫无书，常崎岖从人假借。每读一遍，讽诵略无所遗。外祖丘它，与高祖有旧，高祖闻其有才学，召入西省撰史。初为奉朝请，进直寿光省，为司文侍郎，俄兼中书通事舍人。敕遣制《建陵寺刹下铭》，又启撰高祖集序文，并富丽，自是专掌公家笔翰。孝恭为文敏速，受诏立成，若不留意，每奏，高祖辄称善，累赐金帛。孝恭少从萧寺云法师读经论，明佛理，至是，蔬食持戒，信受甚笃。而性颇自伐，以才能尚人，于时辈中多有忽略，世以此少之。 |
