南豫州刺史廬陵王義眞，警悟愛文義，而性輕易，易，以豉翻。與太子左衞率謝靈運、員外常侍顏延之、曹魏之末，置員外散騎常侍。率，所律翻。慧琳道人情好款密。嘗云：「得志之日，以靈運、延之為宰相，慧琳為西豫州都督。」西豫州卽豫州也。宋南豫州治歷陽，豫州治壽陽，壽陽在歷陽西，故亦謂豫州為西豫州。靈運，玄之孫也，靈運，玄子瑍之子也。性褊傲，不遵法度；褊，方緬翻。朝廷但以文義處之，處，昌呂翻。不以為有實用。靈運自謂才能宜參權要，常懷憤邑。延之，含之曾孫也，顏含見九十六卷晉成帝咸康四年。嗜酒放縱。

三月辛巳，帝還建康，徵謝靈運為秘書監，顏延之為中書侍郎，賞遇甚厚。

金紫光祿大夫顏延之卒。延之子竣貴重，凡所資供，供，居用翻。延之一無所受，布衣茅屋，蕭然如故。常乘羸牛笨車，笨，部本翻，竹裏也；一曰，不精也。逢竣鹵簿，卽屛往道側。導從之次第曰鹵簿。屛，必郢翻。常語竣曰：「吾平生不憙見要人，語，牛倨翻。憙，許記翻。今不幸見汝！」竣起宅，延之謂曰：「善為之，無令後人笑汝拙也。」延之嘗早詣竣，見賓客盈門，竣尚未起，延之怒曰：「汝出糞土之中，升雲霞之上，遽驕傲如此，其能久乎！」物忌盛滿。顏竣之禍，其父知之矣。竣丁父憂，丁，當也；郭璞曰：值也。裁踰月，起為右將軍，丹楊尹如故。竣固辭，表十上；上，時掌翻。上不許，遣中書舍人戴明寶抱竣登車，載之郡舍，之，往也。郡舍，丹楊尹廨也。賜以布衣一襲，絮以綵綸，遣主衣就衣諸體。主衣，主御衣服，唐尚衣奉御之職也。就衣，於旣翻。
