高崇文在蜀期年一旦謂監軍曰：「崇文，河朔一卒，高崇文本幽州人。幸有功，致位至此。西川乃宰相回翔之地，崇文叨居日久，豈敢自安！」屢上表稱「蜀中安逸，無所陳力，願效死邊陲。」考異曰：舊崇文傳曰：「崇文不通文字，厭大府案牘諮稟之煩，且以優富之地，無所陳力，乞居塞上以扞邊戍，懇疏累上。」舊式元衡傳曰：「崇文理軍有法，而不知州縣之政，上難其代者。」今從補國史，參以舊傳。上擇可以代崇文者而難其人。丁卯，以門下侍郎、同平章事武元衡同平章事，充西川節度使。考異曰：孫光憲北夢瑣言曰：「李德裕太尉未出學院，盛有詞藻，而不樂應舉。吉甫相，俾親表勉之。掌武曰：『好驢馬不入行。』由是以品子敘官也。吉甫相，以武相元衡同列，事多不謟，每退公，詞色不懌。掌武啟白曰：『此出之何難！』乃請修狄梁公廟。於是武相漸求出鎮。其智計已聞于早成矣。」今從實錄及舊傳。
