9  | 初，翼城人鄭注，眇小，目下視，而巧譎傾諂，善揣人意，翼城縣，屬絳州，本漢絳縣地，隋改翼城縣，因縣古翼城為名。揣，初委翻。以醫遊四方，羇貧甚。嘗以藥術干徐州牙將，牙將悅之，薦於節度使李愬。愬餌其藥頗驗，遂有寵，署為牙推，牙推，在節度推官之下。浸預軍政，妄作威福，軍府患之。監軍王守澄以眾情白愬，請去之，去，羌呂翻；下同。愬曰：「注雖如是，然奇才也，將軍試與之語，時中官多加諸衛將軍，謂之內將軍。苟無可取，去之未晚。」乃使注往謁守澄，守澄初有難色，不得已見之，坐語未久，守澄大喜，延之中堂，促膝笑語，恨相見之晚。明日，謂愬曰：「鄭生誠如公言。」自是又有寵於守澄，權勢益張，張：知亮翻。愬署為巡官，列於賓席。注既用事，恐牙將薦己者泄其本末，密以他罪譖之於愬，愬殺之。及守澄入知樞密，挈注以西，為立居宅，贍給之；為，于偽翻。遂薦於上，上亦厚遇之。 |
