26  | 林興祖，字宗起，福州羅源人。至治二年成進士，稍遷知鉛山州。鉛山多造偽鈔者，而吳友文為之魁。友文奸黠悍鷙，旣致富，乃分遣惡少四五十輩，為吏於有司，伺有欲告之者，輒先事戕之，前後殺人甚衆。民罹其害，莫敢訴。興祖至，則曰：「此害不除，何以牧民？」即榜禁偽造而立格，募民首告。俄有獲偽造二人，并賍以告者。興祖鞫之急，友文自至，官為營救，遂并執之。須臾訴友文者百有餘人，擇其重罪一二事研之，獄立具。因捕其黨二百餘人，悉寘之法。民害旣去，政聲籍甚。至正八年，遷道州路總管，行方及城，而撞賊已尾其後，相去僅二十里。時湖南副使哈喇特穆爾屯兵城外，聞賊至，以乏軍需，欲退去。興祖即夜往留之。哈喇特穆爾曰：「翼日得鈔五千錠、桐盾五百具者，乃可破賊」。興祖許之。還入視事，即以恩信貸商鈔，而取郡樓舊桐版為盾，日中皆具哈喇特，穆爾大喜，遂留為禦賊計。然賊聞新總管一夕具五百盾，以為大軍且至，已中夜遁去矣。永明縣峒猺屢竊發，興祖手榜諭之，皆曰：「林總管廉而愛民，不可犯也」。三年不入境，春旱，蟲食麥苗，興祖禱之，大雨三日，蟲死而麥稔。已而罷興作，賑貧乏，輕徭薄斂，郡中大治，考課為天下最。以年老致仕，終於家。 |
