7  | 周渭，字得臣，昭州恭城人。幼孤力學。值劉鋹據五嶺，賦重政繁，渭率鄉人避地零陵，阻賊復還，則廬舍皆燼矣，遂棄妻子奔道州，又為盜所襲，乃脫身北走。建隆初，至京師，上書言時務，召試，賜同進士，補白馬主簿。縣大吏犯法，渭即斬之，上奇其才，擢右贊善大夫。時魏帥符彥卿專恣，朝廷選常參官強幹者涖其屬邑，由是以渭知永濟縣，彦卿郊迎，渭揖於馬上，就館，始與相見，略不降屈。乾徳中，通判興州，置口砦監軍，敖狠縱下為暴，渭馳諭以禍福，斬其軍校，衆皆懾服。遷知棣州。殿直傅延翰為監軍，謀作亂，走契丹，渭聞，即擒之，械送闕下，鞫得實，斬於西市。渭在郡以簡肅稱，及太平興國二年，擢廣南轉運副使，吏民送者遮道。初，渭走中原時，其妻莫荃及二子皆留恭城，荃年尚少，父母欲嫁之，荃泣誓曰：「渭非久困者，今違難，必能自奮」。於是親蠶績以給朝夕。及開寶三年廣南平，至是而渭始歸，則二子皆已畢娶矣，凡歴二十六年，時人以為美談。渭到官，即奏除劉鋹時税算之繁者，重定田賦，興學校，屬有事交阯，主將無功，敗卒二人，先逸至邕，奪民錢，渭捕斬之，後至者悉令解甲以入，訖無敢犯。復移書交址，諭以威信，交阯應時入貢。在嶺南六年，徙知揚州，累遷益州轉運使，坐從子累黜為彰信軍節度副使。咸平二年，真宗聞其清節，將復召用，詔下而卒，年七十七。貧不能葬，上憫之，賻錢十萬，以其子建平為乘氏主簿。 |
