17  | 《隋志》稱婆羅門書，以十四字貫一切音，文省義廣，蓋天竺以聲為字。《盤涅經》有二十五字母，《華嚴經》有四十字母。今《通志?七音略》所傳天竺三十六字母，所變化各書，猶可見也。唐古忒之書，出於天竺元世祖中統元年，命國師八思巴製蒙古新字千餘，母四十一，皆相關紐，則採唐古忒與天竺為之，亦迦慮之變相也。我朝達文成公，又採唐古忒蒙古之字，變化而成國書，至乾隆時，於是製成清篆，亦以聲而演形，並託音為字者。然印度之先，亦必以象形為字，未必能遽合聲為字，其合聲為字，必其後起也。遼太祖神冊五年，增損隸書之半，製契丹文字。金太祖命完顏希尹依效楷書，因契丹字合本國語為國書。西夏李元昊命野利仁榮演書，成十二卷，體類八分，此則本原於形，非自然而變者。本無精義自立，故國亡而書隨之也。 |
