57  | 先是，南星為左都御史，與吏部尚書張問達掌京察，黜去亓詩教、趙興邦等，天下快之。至是，問逹罷，南星代為吏部，鋭意澄清，獨行已志政府及中貴憚其剛嚴，不敢有所干請。魏忠賢雅慕南星名，遣其甥傅應星謁見，拒不納。大學士魏廣㣲南星犮，允貞子也，素以通家子畜之，廣㣲入內閣，三至南星門，謝弗見，又嘗嘆曰：「見泉無子」，見泉，允貞別號也，廣㣲恨次骨，與忠賢比而齕南星。然是時東林勢盛，葉向高、韓爌方輔政，南星掌銓李騰芳、陳于廷佐之高攀龍、楊漣、左光斗、秉憲、魏大中、袁化中、長科道鄭三俊。李邦華、孫居相、饒伸、王之寀輩，悉居卿貳而即官。鄒維璉、夏嘉遇張光前、、程國祥、、劉廷諌、等，亦皆民譽，衆正盈朝，激揚諷議，忠賢頗憚之，於外事未敢大肆。 |
