118  | 懿宗咸通中，南詔率蠻來寇，懿宗以湖南觀察使蔡襲代王寛，仍發單滑徐汴荊襄潭鄂諸道兵以擊之，蠻遂引去。時嶺南節度使蔡京忌襲功成，罷戍兵，襲以蠻寇未定，兵疲食盡，作十必死狀，申於中書省。時相信京言，終不省。四年春正月，南詔複率蠻兵五萬來攻，復陷府城，援兵不至。襲左右皆徒步力戰，身中十矢，欲下船不及溺水而死。荊南虞候元惟德謂其眾曰：「吾輩無船，入水則死，不若還向城與蠻人鬥，以一身易二蠻，亦為有利。」遂自東羅門入。蠻不為備，惟德縱兵擊之，殺二千餘人。明日蠻將楊思進出戰，惟德死之。蠻所殺虜凡五十萬人，留兵二萬人。懿宗召還諸道兵，罷安南都?府，置行交州於海門鎮，以宋戎為交州刺史。七月復置都?府。咸通五年，以容管經畧使張茵勾當安南軍府事。茵逗留不進，夏侯薦高駢以代茵。 |
