2  | 帝以皇太子不堪奉大統，密以語后。后曰：「立嫡以長不以賢，豈可動乎？」初，賈充妻郭氏使賂后，求以女為太子妃。及議太子婚，帝欲娶衛瓘女。然后盛稱賈后有淑德，又密使太子太傅荀顗進言，上乃聽之。泰始中，帝博選良家以充後宮，先下書禁天下嫁娶，使宦者乘使車，給騶騎，馳傳州郡，召充選者使后揀擇。后性妒，惟取潔白長大，其端正美麗者並不見留。時卞籓女有美色，帝掩扇謂后曰：「卞氏女佳。」后曰：「籓三世后族，其女不可枉以卑位。」帝乃止。司徒李胤、鎮軍大將軍胡奮、廷尉諸葛沖、太僕臧權、侍中馮蓀、秘書郎左思及世族子女並充三夫人九嬪之列。司、冀、兗、豫四州二千石將吏家，補良人以下。名家盛族子女，多敗衣瘁貌以避之。 |
| 1 | 左思字太沖，齊國臨淄人也。其先齊之公族有左右公子，因為氏焉。家世儒學。父雍，起小吏，以能擢授殿中侍御史。思少學鐘、胡書及鼓琴，並不成。雍謂友人曰：「思所曉解，不及我少時。」思遂感激勤學，兼善陰陽之術。貌寢，口訥，而辭藻壯麗。不好交遊，惟以閑居為事。 |
