以教太子也，書凡二十八卷，列綱四：曰進學，曰養徳、曰厚倫、曰明治，帝親製文弁，其首命詹事彭華、中允、周經等進講于太子，太子每起立，拱聴萬安以為勞，謂講官宜跪請，坐聴，華與經不從，竟得如禮質實，周經，字伯常，陽曲人。按明憲宗實録，書既成，帝親序之，復題其後曰：「朕臨馭以來，兢業圖治，十有九年于兹，葢嘗因早郊禱，惕于星變，肆赦海內，葺郊壇以奉大祀，增籩豆樂舞以禮先師，廣進士之額，重老臣之歸，加養濟窮民之廩，開武學儒生之貢，減糶出賑，以濟民饑，恤刑審録，以清訟獄，修文究武，飭內攘外，朕宵旰靡遑，慮功業之未荗也。夫為治之道，舉綱必挈，其要張目必該其凡，是編所述，庶幾盡之爾，尚究心副朕豫教之意，念之哉！」
