御定資治通鑑綱目三編卷二十一起乙丑，明世宗嘉靖八年盡乙未，明世宗嘉靖十四年，凡七年己丑。八年春正月，兵部尚書兼左都御史、新建伯王守仁卒。守仁病篤，乞骸骨，舉隕陽巡撫林富自代，不俟命免歸，行至南安，卒，喪過江西，軍民無不縞素哭送者，桂蕚劾其擅離職守，詔停世襲䘏典，俱不予。隆慶初，贈侯議文成。守仁天姿英異，幼時謁上饒婁諒，與講朱子格物，大指還家，日端坐讀五經，亦泛濫二氏學數年無所得，及謫龍埸，窮荒無書，居石槨中，日夜譯舊聞，忽悟格物致知，當返諸心，不安求諸事物，喟然曰：「遒在是矣。故其為教，專以致良知為主。從遊弟子甚衆最著者，餘姚徐愛、錢徳洪，山陰王畿，學者稱之。質實。按王守仁集所載年譜，守仁生于成化八年九月三十日，卒于嘉靖七年十一月二十九日，年五十七。明實録系之八年正月，蓋赴告至京之月也。明史儒林傳：婁諒字克貞，其學以收放心為居敬之門，嘗言「纔提起便是天理，纔故下便是人欲」。魏校亟稱之。徐愛字曰仁，守仁女弟。夫錢徳洪，名寛，以字行。王畿字汝中，愛早卒，徳、洪徹悟不如畿畿持循亦不如徳洪泰州王艮則出入二氏矣。二月，以吏部尚書桂蕚兼武英殿大學士，預機務。蕚素與張璁比，後二人皆用事，積不相下，及同居政府，遂至相失。河南、襄陽大饑。
