| 20 | 乃燕，性謙和，好學，以賢能稱。速渾察既薨，憲宗擇於諸子，命乃燕襲爵。乃燕力辭曰：「臣有兄忽林池當襲。」帝曰：「朕知之，然柔弱不能勝。」忽林池亦固讓，乃燕頓首涕泣力辭，不得命，既而曰：「若然，則王爵必不敢受，願代臣兄行軍國之事。」於是忽林池襲為國王，事無巨細，必與乃燕謀議，剖決精當，無所擁滯。世祖在潛藩，常與論事。乃燕敷陳大義，又明習典故。世祖謂左右曰：「乃燕後必可大用。」因號之曰薛禪，猶華言大賢也。乃燕雖居顯要，而小心謹畏，每誨群從子弟曰：「先世從太祖皇帝出入矢石間，被堅執銳，斬將搴旗，勤勞四十餘年，遂成功名。以故一家蒙恩深厚，可謂極矣。慎勿驕惰，以墮先王之名，爾曹戒之。」病卒。世祖聞之，為之悲悼。至正八年，贈中奉大夫、遼陽等處行中書省參知政事、護軍，追封魯郡公。子二人：曰碩德，曰伯顏察兒。 |
