47  | 索襲，字偉祖，燉煌人。虛靖好學，州郡屢征不就，舉孝亷、賢良方正，皆以疾辭。游思陰陽之術，著天文地理十餘篇，多所啟發。不交當世，或獨語獨笑，或長嘆涕泣，或請問不言。茂時，燉煌太守陰澹造之，與言終日，樂而忘反，出而嘆曰：「索先生碩徳名儒，真可以諮大義。」澹欲行鄉射之禮，請襲為三老，曰：「今四表寧輯，將行鄉射之禮，先生年耆望重，道冠一時，養老之義，實繫儒賢。既樹非梧桐，而希鸞鳯降翼；器謝曹公，而冀蓋公枉駕，誠非所謂也。然夫子至聖，有召即赴；孟軻大徳，無聘不至，蓋欲弘闡大猷，敷明道化故也。今之相屈，遵道崇教，非有爵位，意者或可然乎。」會病卒，時年七十九，澹素服會葬，贈錢二萬。澹曰：「世人之所有餘者，富貴也；目之所好者，五色也；耳之所玩者，五音也。而先生棄眾人之所收，收眾人之所棄，味無味於恍惚之際，兼重玄於眾妙之內。宅不彌畆而忘忽九州，形居塵俗而棲心天外，雖黔婁之髙逺，荘光之不願，蔑以過之。」乃謚曰「玄居先生」。 |
