20  | 又崇禎十七年中，兵部尚書凡十四人，亦罕有善全者，二年，王洽下獄死，九年，張鳳翼服毒死，十三年，楊嗣昌自縊死，十四年，陳新甲棄市，其餘如王在晉削籍歸，高第被劾去，其得致仕者，惟張鶴鳴、熊明遇、馮元飆等數人而已。 |
| 25 | 其先崇禎七年，陳奇瑜以賊在蜀中，亦先檄四巡撫會剿，陜西練國事駐商南，遏其西北，鄖陽盧象昇駐房竹，遏其西，河南元默駐盧氏，遏其東北，湖廣唐暉駐南漳，遏其東南，而己與象升入山剿之。崇禎九年，賊盡趨永寧、盧氏、內鄉、淅川大山中，兵部尚書張鳳翼亦請敕河南、鄖陽、陜西三巡撫各扼防，毋使軼出，四川、湖廣兩巡撫移兵近界聽援，而督理二臣以大軍入山蹙之。是嗣昌之前已有此策，亦非創自嗣昌。蓋必外有重兵以防其軼出，而內以重兵蹙之，庶可盡殄，此固勢之不得不然者也。自奇瑜及熊文燦兩誤於撫，而流寇遂不可制。 |
