九月辛未，太祖曾孙舒国公从式进封安定郡王。丁亥，减后妃臣僚荐奏推恩。戊子，莫州地震，有声如雷。丁酉，诏三司裁定宗室月料，嫁娶、生日、郊礼给赐。

元丰元年春正月乙卯，以王安石为尚书左仆射、舒国公、集禧观使。戊午，命详定郊庙礼仪。诏减陈留捧日、天武等军剩员。庚申，御宣德门，召从臣观灯。乙丑，以太皇太后疾，驿召天下医者。

世宗好拔奇俊，有自布衣及下位上书言事者，多不次进用。昭疏谏曰：「昔唐初，刘洎、马周起于徒步，太宗擢用为相；其后，柳璨、朱朴方居下僚，昭宗亦加大用。此四士者，受知于明主；然太宗用之而国兴，昭宗用之而国亡，士之难知如此。臣愿陛下存旧法而用人，当以此四士为鉴戒。」世宗善之。诏令详定《经典释文》、《九经文字》、《制科条式》，及问六玺所出，并议《三礼图》祭玉及鼎釜等。昭援引经据，时称其该博。恭帝即位，封舒国公。

安石之再相也，屡谢病求去，及子雱死，尤悲伤不堪，力请解几务。上益厌之，罢为镇南军节度使、同平章事、判江宁府。明年，改集禧观使，封舒国公。屡乞还将相印。元丰二年，复拜左仆射、观文殿大学士。换特进，改封荆。哲宗立，加司空。
