18  | 元佑元年二月，始遣使入贡。五月，遣鼎利、罔豫章来贺哲宗即位。六月，复遣讹罗聿来求所侵兰州、米脂等五砦。使未至，苏辙两疏请因其请地而与之。司马光言：「此边鄙安危之机，不可不察。灵夏之役，本由我起，新开数砦，皆是彼田，今既许其内附，岂宜靳而不与？彼必曰：'新天子即位，我卑辞厚礼以事中国，庶几归我侵疆，今犹不许，则是恭顺无益，不若以武力取之。'小则上书悖慢，大则攻陷新城。当此之时，不得已而与之，其为国家之耻，无乃甚于今日乎？群臣犹有见小忘大，守近遗远，惜此无用之地，使兵连不解，为国家之忧。愿决圣心，为兆民计。」时异议者衆，唯文彦博与光合，遂从之。秋七月乙丑，秉常殂，时年二十六。在位二十年，改元乾道二年，天赐礼盛国庆五年，大安十一年，天安礼定一年。諡曰康靖皇帝，庙号惠宗，墓号献陵。子乾顺立。 |
