狄棐，字辅之，潭州长沙人。少随父官徐州，以文谒路振，振器爱之，妻以女。举进士甲科，以大理评事知分宜县。历开封府司录，知壁州。道长安，为寇准所厚，准复入相，乃荐通判益州。擢开封府判官，历京西益州路转运、江淮制置发运使，累迁太常少卿、知广州，加直昭文馆。代还，不以南海物自随，人称其廉。拜右谏议大夫、龙图阁直学士、权判吏部流内铨，出知滑州，进给事中，徙天雄军。会给郊赏帛不善，士卒哗噪趣府门，棐不能治。事闻，命侍御史刘夔按视，未及境，众不自安。棐驰白夔，请绐以行河事。夔至，与转运使李绛诛首恶数人。棐坐罢懦，降知随州，徙同州。勾当三班院，进枢密直学士，历知陜郑州、河中河南府，复判流内铨。出知扬州，未行，卒。
