十二月丁丑，敕各省绅士在籍办理团练。命四品京堂胜保从军河南。癸巳，贼陷武昌，巡抚常大淳死之。上切责督军大臣不筹全局，拥兵自卫，逮徐广缙治罪。以向荣为钦差大臣，督办军务，张亮基署湖广总督。以叶名琛为两广总督，柏贵为广东巡抚。癸卯，向荣奏贼连陷武、汉，搭有浮桥，必须多备炮船，将桥焚毁，方可进剿。得旨：「刑部郎中卢应翔所带炮船，曾在长沙击贼，即迅赴军前。」甲辰，吉林、黑龙江徵兵到京。得旨：「每起间二日起行，带兵官严守纪律，不得多索车辆，骚扰驿站。」祫祭太庙。

十二月辛亥，耆龄奏曾国荃攻克吉水。骆秉章、劳崇光会奏官军攻克平乐。广西贼陷庆远。丙辰，督办三省剿匪副都统胜保奏请皖兵悉归节制。得旨：「胜保尚属勇敢，若平其躁气，敛其骄心，可为有用之材，何庸自行★J6请。」庚申，英人入广东省城，劫总督叶名琛以去。诏革名琛职，以黄宗汉为两广总督，柏贵署理。乙亥，李孟群奏粤、捻合股东窜，逼近商、固。命胜保严防之。丙子，祫祭太庙。
