11  | 五年，授湖南巡抚。镇筸黑苗出峒焚掠，蔓延三厅，遣兵击平之。亲勘常德堤围私垦洲地百数十处，造册立案，永息争端。寻复召为刑部侍郎。至京，面陈永绥厅孤悬苗境，不足资控制，请移厅治花园，移协营茶洞，沿边遍设碉卡，以永绥旧城为汛地，使苗弁驻闉，约束诸苗寨，下所司议行。六年，偕侍郎那彦宝勘近畿水灾，又偕侍郎高杞监疏长辛店河道。 |
| 12 | 九年，误听湖北巡抚高杞言，劾湖广总督吴熊光受贿，不得实，后复以独对时密谕私告杞，事觉，下廷臣议罪，以大辟上。仁宗知彭龄无他，不欲因言事加重谴，诏斥诸臣所拟过当，有意杜言事者之口；又念彭龄亲老，免远谪，罢职家居。逾年，起授右庶子，骤迁内阁学士。 |
| 8 | 九年，劾湖南巡抚高杞违例调补知县，杞坐降调。未几，侍郎初彭龄劾熊光受沔阳知州秦泰金，及两淮匣费，上诘彭龄，以得自高杞对。命巡抚全保按验无迹，彭龄、杞俱获谴。传谕熊光返躬自省，平心办事，戒勿躁妄。 |
