| 145 | 胡方，字大靈，新會人。歲貢生。方敦崇實行，處道學風氣之末，獨守堅確。總督吳興祚聞其名，使招之，方走匿，不能得也。事父母，色養靡不周，而心常如不及。遇有病，憂形於色，藥必嘗而後進。夜必衣冠侍，未嘗就寢。及居喪，藉草宿柩旁，三年不入內。先人田廬，悉以與弟，授徒自給。族★L5不能自存者，竭力資之。有達官齎重金乞其文為壽，不應；吏懾之，不應；家人告以絕糧，不應。鄉曲子弟偶蹈不韙，有原就鞭撲，不原聞其事於方者。里中語曰：「可被他人笞，勿使胡君知。他人笞猶可，胡君愧煞我。」其從學者，仕與未仕，白首猶懍懍奉其教。雖困甚，終不入公庭。聞聲向慕，以得見為喜，曰：「教我矣！」有以蔭得官，則大慚曰：「吾未能信，得無辱我夫子。」方告之曰：「為官能不愛錢，致力於官守，有何不可？」其人卒不負其言。 |
