| | Jiqieyu met the dragonfly at Tuan, and the dragonfly lifted its head and flew away. Jiqieyu chased after it, circling around it in a spiral motion. The dragonfly became lost as to where to go, so it opened its mouth to await [its fate]. Jiqieyu seized its head, bent his body like a bow and shot an arrow, which entered the dragonfly's abdomen, ate its heart, bit its [unidentified character], emerged from its tail, and the dragonfly died without knowing it. On another day while walking by the stove, he saw a slug and wanted to catch it. Jian told him, "This creature is small but poisonous; one must not touch it." Jiqieyu angrily said, "How excessive is your deception of me!" "There is no poison in the world more deadly than that of a snake, and among snakes, none are more venomous than the dragonfly. When it bites trees, the trees wither; when it gnaws at humans or beasts, they die. Its intensity is like fire." "But I entered its abdomen, ate its heart, pickled and preserved its entrails, drank its blood to intoxication, and feasted on its fat. After three days I awoke feeling warm and refreshed—what could there possibly be in a mere inch-long wriggling worm?" He raised his foot to trample it, and the slug moved slowly forward, curling and extending its horns, spitting out mucus to await him. Jiqieyu became stuck and fell over, wanting to run but his feet and beard were completely entangled. He lay [unidentifiable characters] there and was eaten by ants.
