禹之治天下也，以五聲聽。門懸鐘鼓鐸磬，而置鞀，以得四海之士。為銘於簨𧇽，曰：「教寡人以道者擊鼓，教寡人以義者擊鐘，教寡人以事者振鐸，語寡人以憂者擊磬，語寡人以獄訟者揮鞀。」此之謂五聲。是以禹嘗據一饋而七十起，日中而不暇飽食，曰：「吾猶恐四海之士留於道路。」是以四海之士皆至。是以禹當朝，廷間也可以羅爵。
