| | Qi attacked Song, and Song sent Zangzi to seek help from Jing. King Jing was very pleased and promised to offer strong assistance. Zangzi returned in worry. His charioteer said, "You sought help and received it; why do you look worried?" Zangzi said, "Song is small while Qi is large. To offer aid to the small Song and incur hostility from the great Qi—this is what worries the king; yet King Jing was overly pleased, so he must be trying to reassure me firmly. "If I grow strong while Qi becomes exhausted, it will benefit Jing." Zangzi then returned. King Qi indeed launched an attack, captured five cities of Song, and King Jing did not come to the rescue.
