?」曰:「未論病痛。人必全體是,而後可以言病痛。譬如純是白物事了,而中有黑點,始可言病痛。公今全體都未是,何病痛之可言!設雖有善,亦只是黑上出白點,特其義理之不能已與氣質之或美耳。大抵人須先要趨向是。若趨向正底人,雖有病痛,也是白地上出黑花。此特其氣稟之偏,未能盡勝耳,要之白地多也。趨向不正底人,雖有善,亦只是黑地上出白花,卻成差異事。如孔門弟子,亦豈能純善乎?然終是白地多,可愛也。人須先拽轉了自己趨向始得。孔子曰:『苟志於仁矣,無惡也。』既志於義理,自是無惡;雖有未善處,只是過耳,非惡也。以此推之,不志於仁,則無善矣。蓋志在於利欲,假有善事,亦偶然耳,蓋其心志念念只在利欲上。世之志利欲與志理義之人,自是不干事。志利欲者,便如趨夷狄禽獸之徑;志理義者,便是趨正路。鄉里如江德功吳公濟諸人,多少是激惱人,然其志終在於善。世亦有一種不激惱人底,又見人說道理,他也從而美之;見人非佛老,他亦從而非之。但只是胡亂順人情說,而心實不然,不肯真箇去做,此最不濟事。」伯羽
