问：“明道曰：‘上智高远之事，非中人以下所可告，盖逾涯分也。’横渠曰云云。此说得之吕监庙所编，其说似正，不知载在何集录。第二十章凡六说。伊川两说。横渠说在外。伊川第二说曰：‘“中人以上，中人以下”，皆谓才也。’第一说与尹氏之说同此意。谓之才者，以为禀受然尔。杨氏亦曰：‘有中人上下者，气禀异也。’此三说皆以其上中下为系所禀受。范氏则曰：‘由学与不学故也。’谢氏亦曰：‘特语其操术浅深，非不移之品。’此二说，又以其上、中、下为系于学术。五说正相反。据本文，只大纲论上中下，初未尝推原其所以然也。若推原其所以然，则二者皆有之。或以其禀受不同，或以其学术有异，不可偏举。”曰：“伊川第二说，已具二者之意矣。”干
