鲍昱为沘阳长，县人赵坚杀人系狱，其父母诣昱，自言年七十馀唯有一子，适新娶，今系狱当死，长无种类，涕泣求哀。昱怜其言，令将妻入狱，解械止宿，遂任身有子。 |
| | Bao Yu was the magistratus of Biyang. A native of the county, Zhao Jian, had committed murder and was imprisoned in jail. His parents went to Bao Yu and said that they were over seventy years old and had only one son who had just recently married; now he was in prison facing death, and there would be no descendants left for their family. They wept bitterly and pleaded with him. Yu felt compassion for their words, ordered that his wife be brought into the prison, removed the shackles and allowed them to stay together overnight. As a result, he eventually fathered a child.

鲍昱，字文渊，拜司隶校尉，诏昱诣尚书，使封胡降檄。上遣小黄门问昱有所怪不？对曰：“臣闻故事通官不著姓，又当司徒露布，怪使司隶而著姓也。”帝报曰：“吾欲令天下知忠臣之子复为司隶。” |
| | Bao Yu, courtesy name Wenyuan, was appointed as Shuli Jiao Wei. An imperial edict summoned Yu to the Ministry of Works and ordered him to draft a proclamation for surrendering to Hu. The emperor sent a junior yellow door official to ask if there was anything strange that Yu had noticed? He replied, "I have heard that according to precedent, officials of the Tongguan rank do not list their surnames. Moreover, it should be the Grand Tutor who issues a public announcement; I found it strange that an official from the Shuli Office was used and his surname was listed." The emperor replied, "I want the whole country to know that the son of a loyal minister has once again become an official in the Shuli Office."

时司徒辞讼久者至十数年，比例轻重，非其事类，错杂难知。昱奏定辞讼七卷，决事都目八卷，以齐同法令，息遏人讼也。 |
| | At that time, cases of litigation before the Grand Tutor could last as long as ten or more years. The severity and nature of these cases varied greatly; they were mixed together in a complicated manner and difficult to discern clearly. Yu submitted a proposal establishing seven volumes of litigation regulations and eight volumes of case resolutions, in order to standardize legal statutes and reduce disputes among the people.
