| | Ding Chen followed the emperor across the Yellow River and was appointed governor of Henan. When it came time to bestow rewards upon the meritorious officials, the emperor ordered each of them to state what they desired. He asked Chen, "All the generals want counties; you alone request a township. Why is that?" Chen replied, "In the past, Sun Shuao instructed his son to request barren and rocky land when receiving a fief. Now Chen's ability is slight and my merit small; to receive a township is already generous enough." The emperor agreed, and enfeoffed him as the Marquis of Xin'an Xiang in Dingling, with a stipend from 5,000 households. Later he was transferred to be enfeoffed as the Marquis of Lingyang.
