| Nanyang Feng Liang was a young county official; he considered it shameful to serve as a laborer for the tomb, so he smashed his cart and killed his horse, tearing up his clothes and hats. The master beat him. He studied under Du Fu. His wife and children saw the cart with a dead horse, and thought it had been harmed by bandits. Liang was a man of lofty virtue and pure conduct; he was a person who observed ritual propriety with restraint. |
