| | The emperor said to Yu, "Your learning is equal to that of your predecessors, thus restoring elegance and culture." That winter, the emperor personally lectured on his own interpretations of the Five Elements at the Biyong. Afterward, he ordered Yu to explain one chapter as well. The emperor said to Yu, "I am Confucius, and you are Zixia; it is Shang who has inspired me." He also asked Yu, "How many of your students can carry on the learning?" Yu replied, "My sons are all unable to transmit the learning; only my nephew is beginning to study it." The emperor said, "Make every effort to teach him. If anyone rises up [as a scholar], report it immediately."

皇太子賜郁鞍馬、刀劍，郁乃上疏皇太子曰：「伏見太子體性自然，包含今古，謙謙允恭，天下共見。郁父子受恩，無以明益，夙夜慚懼，誠思自竭。愚以為太子上當合聖心，下當卓絕於眾，宜思遠慮，以光朝廷。」 |
| | The Crown Prince bestowed an amur, a sword and dagger on Yu. Yu then submitted a memorial to the Crown Prince saying, "I have observed that Your Highness possesses a nature of its own, embracing both ancient and modern wisdom; modest and respectful, this is evident to all under heaven." The father and son of Yu have received Your Majesty's grace, yet we lack the means to express our gratitude; day and night we feel ashamed and fearful, sincerely wishing to devote ourselves completely. I humbly believe that the Crown Prince should above all align with the sage's mind, and below surpass others in excellence. He should ponder far ahead and take measures to bring glory to the court."
