| | Jia Zong, courtesy name wuru, was the governor of Shufang. The Xiongnu often raided the frontier. When they captured a live prisoner, they asked, "Who is the governor?" He said, "Jia Wuru." They asked, "Is he the son of General Jin Jia?" He said, "Yes." They all released him and sent him back. After this, they no longer entered the frontier.

| | Jia Zong, courtesy name Wuru, served as a general in charge of the Changshui military unit. Jia Zong was by nature upright and just, conscientiously performing his duties and caring for his soldiers. When he served in the imperial court, he frequently made suggestions on matters of state; as a result, he was greatly favored and highly esteemed, receiving generous rewards and gifts. The emperor admired Jia Zong for possessing both martial virtue and scholarly knowledge. At every banquet, he would have him engage in debates on the classics with the contemporary great Confucian scholar Simu Ding Hong.
