| | Empress Xiaoshun of Liang was selected into the palace in the third month of spring, Yongjian 3rd year (March 25, 128 AD), on the Bingwu day. The physiognomist Mao Tong saw her and was greatly startled, bowing twice in awe and congratulating her by saying: "This is what is called the solar angle with a crescent moon; it is the most noble of all appearances, which I have never seen before." The Grand Historian divined for her and the omen indicated longevity; he also cast yarrow stalks, obtaining the hexagram Kun transformed into Bi.
