| | Sun Cheng was a Zhonghuangmen official. After Emperor An died, initially Jiang Jing and others slandered the crown prince, who was deposed and made Prince of Jiying, living under the western Zhongxia. The northern marquis Beixianghou was summoned to be his successor. Cheng and eighteen others killed Jiang Jing, Yan Xian, and others, and installed Prince Jiying as emperor. For his meritorious service, Cheng was enfeoffed as Hou of Fuyang with a fief of ten thousand households.

Later, outside Shenghua Gate, Cheng met with Ma Guo and others, and lied to Guo, saying: "The Son of Heaven gave me dates and date paste; he said to you, 'dates'—hasten to complete it." He then conspired with Guo and others to install Emperor Shun.

| | Sun Cheng, together with Wang Kang and others, beheaded Jiang Jing et al., and welcomed and installed Prince Jiying, who became Emperor Shun. Yan Xian's younger brother Yan Jing was Weiyi. Returning from the palace to his external office, he gathered troops and arrived at Shengde Gate. Shangshu Guo Zhen led the direct night quarters of Yulin troops out and encountered Jing, who then attacked Zhen with an axe but missed. Zhen struck Jing with a sword, causing him to fall from his carriage; those around pierced his chest with halberds and captured him, delivering him to Tingwei.
