| | Zhu Fu, courtesy name Zhongxian. He was a native of Wan, Nanyang. Orphaned at an early age, he went to live with his maternal relatives, the Liu family of Fuyang. Shang petitioned Da Sima Yan You on behalf of Chongling Hou, requesting compensation for overdue taxes. At that time, Fu also petitioned You on behalf of Fuyang Hou regarding the same matter. You stopped his carriage and spoke only with Shang, ignoring Fu and others. After returning home, Shang teased Fu by saying, "Would General Yan even look at you?"

上复以朱祜为护军，常舍止于中。祜侍醼，从容曰：“长安政乱，公有日角之相。”从以观上风采。上曰：“召刺奸收护军！”祜由是不复言。 |
| | Shang then appointed Zhu Hu as his hu jun (military officer), and often stayed in the middle of the troops. While attending a banquet, Hu spoke calmly and said, "The politics of Chang'an are in chaos; you have the facial features of one destined for greatness." He followed to observe Shang's bearing and demeanor. Shang said, "Summon the officials to arrest the corrupt and seize the military officer!" From then on, Hu no longer spoke.

| | Emperor Guangwu once traveled with Zhu Fu in a carriage and passed by Shi Li Chen Chong, the official in charge of guarding. Chen Chong was a native of Nanyang and had an established relationship with the emperor. Fu waited outside the carriage, thinking that the emperor should take the direct route; now that Chong had requested an audience, the emperor was displeased. He politely excused himself and returned to his carriage. Chong laughed heartily and said, "Only I am supposed to meet with you. Thinking of your forgetfulness, I deliberately did not mention it." Chen often teased and behaved familiarly in this manner, yet Fu became even more respectful and cautious in his conduct.

| | When the emperor was in Chang'an, he once bought honey with Hu to mix medicine together. The emperor recalled this and bestowed one dan of white honey upon Hu, asking, "How is it compared to when we bought honey together in Chang'an?" Their closeness was like this.

When the emperor ascended the throne, he visited Hu's residence and said to him, "Master, did you not leave me during our lectures?" Hu replied, "Dare I do so?"
