| | In spring of the second year, the Duke met with Rong at Qian. A meeting implies that the outsider is in a position of dominance. The wise consider matters carefully, the righteous act upon them, and the benevolent hold fast to their principles; with these three qualities, one may then participate in a meeting. Meeting with Rong was dangerous for the Duke.

夏，五月，莒人入向。入者，內弗受也。向，我邑也。無侅帥師入極。入者，內弗受也。極，國也。苟焉以入人為志者，人亦入之矣。不稱氏者，滅同姓，貶也。 |
| | In summer, fifth month, the Ju people entered Xiang. "Entering" implies that it was not accepted within. Xiang is our fief. Wu Chai led his troops to enter Ji. "Entering" implies that it was not accepted internally. Ji is a state. If one recklessly takes entering another's territory as their goal, others will also enter theirs. The omission of the clan name indicates that they have been extinguished from the same surname lineage; this is a form of censure.

| | In September, Ji Lüwei came to escort the bride. Escorting a bride is an act of intimacy. Sending a high-ranking official was not proper. Mentioning the state's clan name is because they came to establish relations with us; therefore, gentlemen promoted them.

冬，十月，伯姬歸於紀。禮，婦人謂嫁曰歸，反曰來歸，從人者也。婦人在家制於父，既嫁制於夫，夫死從長子。婦人不專行，必有從也。伯姬歸於紀，此其如專行之辭何也？曰非專行也。吾伯姬歸於紀，故志之也。其不言使，何也？逆之道微，無足道焉爾。紀子伯、莒子盟於密。或曰紀子伯莒子而與之盟。或曰年同爵同，故紀子以伯先也。 |
| | In winter, tenth month, Boji was married to Ji. According to rites, a woman's marriage is called "returning," and her return from marriage is termed "coming back"; this reflects that she follows others. A woman, while at home, is subject to the authority of her father; after marriage, she is subject to that of her husband; and if the husband dies, she follows the eldest son. Women do not act independently; they must always be accompanied by others. Boji was married to Ji—how does this fit the expression of independent action? It is said that she did not act independently. My Boji was married to Ji, so it is recorded. Why is the word "sent" not used? The details of escorting are minor and unworthy of mention. Ji Zi Bo and Ju Zi concluded an alliance at Mi. Some say Ji Zi Bo, Ju Zi, and others formed an alliance together. Others say that since they were of the same year and held the same rank, Ji Zi was listed first with the title "Bo."

| | On the Yimao day of the twelfth month, Lady Zishi passed away. The death of a lady is recorded without specifying the location. A "lady" refers to the wife of Yin. Her death was recorded but her burial was not—this is in accordance with the lady's duty, as she followed the rites for a ruler. The Zheng people attacked Wei.
