| | In autumn, the seventh month, Duke Gengyu of Ju came to take refuge. On the Wuchen day, Wu defeated the combined forces of Dun, Hu, Shen, Cai, Chen, and Xu at Jifu. Duke Kun of Hu and Duke Ying of Shen were annihilated. The Central States do not mention defeat; why is defeat mentioned here? The Central States were not defeated, so Duke Kun of Hu and Duke Ying of Shen must have been annihilated, right? Mentioning defeat is a way to explain their annihilation. Chen Xiaye was captured. "To capture" is not a term of granting, but rather an expression denoting the relationship between superior and inferior. The Son of Heaven resided at Diquan. This was the beginning of King Wang's reign. The title "Son of Heaven" is used because he was recognized as king due to his residence there. The Yin family installed Prince Chao as the crown prince. "To install" implies someone who should not be installed. Why is the name of Chao omitted? To distinguish it from the "Chao" of the Yin family.
