In spring of the twenty-ninth year, Xin Yanjiu. Yanjiu was Faqiu. The use of the word "new" indicates a reason. If there was a reason, then why is it recorded? Ancient rulers would certainly observe at appropriate times the efforts of their people: if the people were exerting themselves physically, then labor projects such as building walls and dikes would be carried out; if the people were diligent in producing wealth, then tribute and taxes would be light; if the people were preoccupied with food, then all other matters would fall into neglect. In winter, walls and dikes were built; in spring, the new Yanjiu was constructed—this indicates that their use of people's labor had already reached its limit.

In summer, the Zheng people invaded Xu.

In autumn, there were locusts. When some appeared and others disappeared, it was recorded as "there were locusts."

In winter, the twelfth month, Ji Shuji died. The walls of Zhujia and Fang were built. 略 It was possible to build the city, because it included both large and small areas.
